Ms Agnieszka Strzelczyk-Walczak is well known to many members of our Chamber. She is an entrepreneur who has been active in the exhibition industry for more than 20 years. She was the founder, co-owner and President of the Management Board of A.S. Messe Consulting sp. z o.o. of Warsaw, which operated from 2004 to 2022, as well as a member of the Polish Trade Fair Corporation and a Founding Member (in 2006) and long-standing Member (until 2022) of the Polish Chamber of Exhibition Industry.
As it happens, since 1989 Warsaw, the registered seat of A.S. Messe Consulting, and the city of Düsseldorf in Germany have been partner cities, cooperating in the economic and cultural spheres, and Ms Agnieszka Strzelczyk-Walczak became the exclusive representative in Poland of one of the world’s leading German trade fair companies – Messe Düsseldorf GmbH, based in Düsseldorf. In this way, Ms Strzelczyk-Walczak’s activities were also linked to promoting Warsaw as a business centre and supporting business relations between companies from both cities.
Ms Agnieszka Strzelczyk-Walczak is a promoter of trade fairs as an effective tool of marketing and business communication. By spreading knowledge of exhibition marketing, she educated Polish entrepreneurs about the role that trade fairs play in promoting the Polish brand and Polish products at fairs abroad, thereby contributing to the internationalisation of many Polish companies and the growth of Polish exports. The main industries whose development she supported were: medical and medical equipment, occupational health and safety, mining, plastics processing, boat and yacht building, printing and metallurgy. Ms Strzelczyk-Walczak established business contacts with hundreds of Polish companies and supported them by comprehensively organising their participation in trade fairs abroad, mainly in Germany, in Düsseldorf, but also in Eastern markets – China, Thailand and Singapore – to which Messe Düsseldorf had extended its operations. We watched with pride the success of A.S. Messe Consulting and its dynamic growth under Ms Strzelczyk-Walczak’s leadership, as well as the successes associated with her running of the Messe Düsseldorf representation in Poland.
Ms Agnieszka Strzelczyk-Walczak was an active member of the exhibition industry’s self-governing community and was involved in the structures of the Polish Chamber of Exhibition Industry and of its predecessor, the Polish Trade Fair Corporation. From 2005 to 2007 she was a member of the Court of Honour of the Polish Trade Fair Corporation. In the Polish Chamber of Exhibition Industry (PCEI), representing A.S. Messe Consulting, Ms Strzelczyk-Walczak served on the Audit Committee from March 2007 to June 2015, chairing it for two terms. In June 2015 she was appointed to the PCEI Council, on which she sat until the end of the 2015–2019 term, and subsequently, in May 2019, she was re-elected to the PCEI Council, remaining a member until May 2022, i.e. until A.S. Messe Consulting ceased its business activity.
As a Member of PCEI, Ms Strzelczyk-Walczak also consistently supported the work of the PCEI section of “Organisers of Trade Fair Participation Abroad and Service Providers for Companies Taking Part in Trade Fairs Abroad”.
After the death of the Section’s founder and long-standing Chairman, Mr Tadeusz Michalak (MAXPOL, Warsaw), she continued his work, showing outstanding commitment to the operating conditions of Polish organisers of Polish exhibitors’ participation in trade fairs abroad, and consulting on draft legislation concerning state financial support for this activity, i.e. the Council of Ministers regulation on the granting of de minimis public aid, which Polish exporters regard as very important in terms of supporting Polish exports.
We greatly valued Ms Agnieszka Strzelczyk-Walczak’s involvement in the life of our Chamber. She was not only a conscientious member of the Chamber’s governing bodies and its other teams and collegial bodies, but also proved to be a person full of initiative and energy, always willing to share her knowledge and experience, a participant in many projects carried out within our Chamber, and above all a wonderful person and colleague. Creativity, ethics and courage in her conduct are the traits of character that always distinguished Ms Strzelczyk-Walczak and helped our organisation in difficult times, when it stood “at a turning point”.
When A.S. Messe Consulting ceased operating, our Chamber lost a person exceptionally committed to the affairs of our organisation and of the Polish exhibition industry. Therefore, in recognition of Ms Agnieszka Strzelczyk-Walczak’s contribution to the achievements of the Polish Chamber of Exhibition Industry and to the integration of the Chamber community, we submit to the PCEI General Assembly for a vote a resolution to confer on her the title of Honorary Member of the Polish Chamber of Exhibition Industry.

From 1970 to 2018 Prof. Henryk Mruk worked as an assistant, assistant professor and, from 1992, professor at the Poznań University of Economics and Business (formerly the Academy of Economics). In addition, from 1995 to 2008 he ran his own marketing agency, FOCUS; from 2002 to 2014 he worked at the Faculty of Health Sciences of Poznań University of Medical Sciences; from 2014 to 2019 he ran the Kreisel Development Academy; and since 2016 he has been a member of the Programme Board of the EUROCASH Skills Academy.
Since 2018 Prof. Henryk Mruk has been a member of staff and lecturer at the School of Management and Banking in Poznań and, alongside his research and teaching, he works with companies from a variety of industries.
In the course of his academic and teaching career, Prof. Henryk Mruk has supervised 38 doctoral candidates to completion and educated several thousand master’s graduates and diploma students of universities in Poznań and other cities – on degree programmes, first- and second-cycle programmes and postgraduate programmes – in marketing and communication. At the Poznań University of Economics and Business his courses included International Trade Fairs and Exhibitions. He has also trained the management boards and staff of many Polish companies in marketing and trade fair marketing.
He has published more than 1,500 articles and books, including works on topics related to trade fairs. Among others, the academic publication “Targi a rozwój ekonomiczny państw” (Trade Fairs and the Economic Development of Countries) appeared in 2011.
The close cooperation of the exhibition industry and our organisation with Prof. Henryk Mruk has many dimensions. Here are some examples.
In 2006 the Polish Trade Fair Corporation published a work on modern trade fair marketing that was innovative on a European scale – “Marketing targowy. Vademecum wystawcy” (Trade Fair Marketing: An Exhibitor’s Handbook), edited by Prof. Henryk Mruk and Mr Alojzy Kuca. This book, aimed primarily at exhibitors, discusses the changing functions of trade fairs, which have evolved from a place of direct sales into a place of direct relationships between buyer and seller – an arena of direct marketing. The book also found its way into the libraries of universities of economics, and it should be emphasised that, thanks to the Polish Trade Fair Corporation, trade fair marketing was already being taught at six Polish higher education institutions.
In subsequent years Prof. Mruk provided expert support for PCEI’s participation in several academic conferences on the importance of trade fairs, as well as for the organisation by PCEI and by CENTREX – International Exhibition Statistics Union of academic conferences held in Brno, Budapest, Poznań and Warsaw, among other places. Prof. Henryk Mruk took part in these conferences as a speaker.
Among the most important conferences to which Prof. Henryk Mruk made an enormous expert contribution, mention should be made of the conference at the SGH Warsaw School of Economics in March 2011, held under the patronage of the Minister of Economy and attended by Mr Manfred Busche, President of UFI – The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry. For this conference, and on the occasion of it, the Polish Chamber of Exhibition Industry published the book “Znaczenie targów dla rozwoju gospodarczego kraju” (The Importance of Trade Fairs for the Country’s Economic Development), edited by Prof. Henryk Mruk. The book was the result of deliberations by an international team of authors, including Prof. Manfred Busche, on the evolution of the trade fair and exhibition industry in Europe and worldwide and on the challenges facing the industry, including privatisation issues and the related organisational, capital and structural transformations. The international character of the publication increased its value and made it possible to view these issues from different perspectives and through the prism of the experience of many different countries.
In 2012 Prof. Henryk Mruk promoted within the academic community the Polish version, prepared by the Polish Chamber of Exhibition Industry, of the course by UFI – The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry entitled “Rola targów w miksie marketingowym” (The Role of Exhibitions in the Marketing Mix), which was released on CD on the basis of the original UFI course. The course was intended primarily for lecturers teaching subjects in marketing and business communication, as well as for students – the future employees and heads of marketing departments of companies that use trade fairs as an instrument of marketing and business communication.
Prof. Henryk Mruk’s close, long-standing cooperation with the Poznań International Fair (MTP) should also be emphasised.
From 2002 to 2018 Prof. Mruk was Chairman of the Awards Committee of the ACANTHUS AUREUS competition for exhibitors, established by MTP in 2003. The award aims to reward the best architectural and graphic solutions that foster direct communication with customers and enhance the exhibitor’s marketing image. The Golden Acanthus statuette is awarded to the stands best designed and prepared to implement a company’s marketing strategy during a trade fair. In addition, in the last years before the pandemic, Prof. Henryk Mruk’s students presented their semester projects for the course “International Trade Fairs and Exhibitions” at MTP every year.
